Best Time To Travel In Thailand

Thailand's climate is dominated by monsoons. It is tropical, high in temperature and humidity. April and May are the hottest months of summer.  Except for the southern coastal region, Thailand can be miserably hot during the months of March-May. The South West monsoon begins in June, and it continues intermittently until the end of October. Annual rainfall is about 1520 mm in the northern, western, and central regions, about 2,540 mm or more on the Thai part of the Malay Peninsula, and about 1,270 mm or less on the Khorat Plateau. Severe storms and widespread seasonal flooding can occur without warning in Thailand, particularly during the wet season. Therefore, be sure to have rainwear and waterproof boots during the monsoon. If you come from parched desert lands, this is the time to visit Thailand and enjoy the rains as well as the beauty of the fresh green landscape. Since most tourists start arriving from November onwards, this also is the time to come to avoid the tourist crowds and take the chance to have a quiet peaceful time. You can also take advantage of the discounted rooms and low-season rates for travel.

From November onwards to the end of February, the climate is better, with a cooling breeze from the North East and a reduction in the humidity level. This is also the main tourist season, and the best time to visit Thailand. The north and north-east are generally cooler than Bangkok in winter, and hotter in summer. It is not difficult to leave the crowds behind, even during peak months, if you simply avoid some of the most popular destinations (e.g. Chiang Mai and all islands and beaches). This is also the prime time for diving in terms of visibility and accessibility. Northern Thailand and the Northeast have the same basic seasons as those in the central and eastern regions. The winters are though significantly cooler. Mountainous regions can get particularly cold, on some occasions down to 0 degrees centigrade. In these parts of Thailand winter starts in November and goes on till January. Without doubt, these are the best months for a visit to the North and Northeast -- flowers are in bloom, it is dry and cool, and in the mountains, mist and fog often form making what is already wonderful scenery exquisite.
