Thai musical instruments have continued to exist in Thailand along with western musical instruments. It is the uniqueness of these instruments that constantly attract foreigners and non-Thai speaking people.
Traditional Thai music is passed on by masters to their pupils. In Thailand, theses masters are extremely learned and well versed in Thai culture. In Thai society, the masters are highly regarded and are considered to be custodians of Thai culture and heritage.
Unfortunately for traditional Thai music and Thailand, the youth are not interested in traditional Thai music because of influence from western culture. However, efforts are being made in Thailand to preserve and revive interest in traditional Thai music.
Bussakorn, a renowned master in traditional Thai music, has suggested to the government of Thailand to make Thai music a compulsory course in schools and college rather than an optional one. Even countries like Trinidad and Tobago and Norway are doing their bit to preserve traditional Thai music. Thai music is taught to Norwegian students in an exchange program between Thailand and Norway.
