Nakhon Ratchasima Province:

The city of various Khmer ruins and the famous statue of Khun Ying Mo named Nakhon Ratchasima or commonly known as "Khorat" is situated on a plateau, about 260 kms northeast of Bangkok. The city itself serves as the gateway to the northeastern region. It is Thailand’s largest province and is the main transportation, industrial and economic hub of the northeast. People are extremely warm and friendly.

Popular tourist destinations include the Monument of Thao Suranari, built to commemorate the heroic deeds of Khun Ying Mo, wife of the Deputy Governor of Khorat during the reign of King Rama III, who managed to save the city from the invasion of the Laotian army led by Prince Anuwong of Vientiane. Located in Nakhon Ratchasima are several important religious places including Wat Phra Narai Maharat, housing the sacred image of Lord Narayana in sandstone; Wat Sala Loi, which is constructed in the shape of Chinese Junk; the 3000 years old monastery Wat Khoa Chan Ngam, which is famous for its pre-historic rock paintings; the Phra Non Sema, with its reclining Buddha image made of red sand stone which is the most ancient and largest in Thailand; and the famous Wat Na Phra That, with its beautiful mural paintings from the early Rattanakosin period.
