Chumphon has many attractions to entice even the casual visitor. The Namtok Kapo Forest Park is located in Tha Sae district and it is 30 kilometers north of Chumphon town. This beautiful Park has a lush green forest which is ideal for a picnic near the waterfall located within its confines.
Also located in Chumphon is the beautiful and famous beach of Hat Sai Ri. Just north of the beach is the memorial site of HRH Prince Chumphon, who is considered the father of the Royal Thai Navy. This site is revered by Thai seamen. You can find in the memorial site a shrine, a huge torpedo boat and a herbal garden.
Just one kilometer from Hat Sai Ri is the beautiful small island called Ko Maphrao which is inhabited by swallows and one can see thousands of swallow nests on the island.
You can take a trip to the mouth of the Tha Taphao River where Pak Nam Chumphon is located. You can savor the delights offered by a large fishing village located right at the estuary. From the bank of Tha Taphao River you can go to the famous Ko Tao, a remote island famous for its scenic beauty and coral reefs. You can also take a boat and visit smaller islands offering beautiful beaches, scenic views and rare animals. One such island is Ko Mattra which has a sandy beach with spectacular rock formations on the west and south of the island. The island is also home to rare crabs called Pu Kai which climb trees and cry like a chick.
