Angthong National Marine Park In Thailand

Thailand is not just about exotic nightlife and endless sandy beaches. Thailand has abundance of marine life and national parks that give a visitor sights never imagined before.

Angthong National Marine Park is one such must-see place when visiting Thailand. The marine park is made up of a group of 40 islands and visitors are taken aback by the beauty of rock formations on these islands. Angthong means “Golden Bowl”.

The marine park is spread over 250 square kilometers. It also includes 50 square kilometers of limestone islands and karsts. Most of the 40 islands are quite close to each other and they offer visitors a breathtaking panorama when they sail around the park. The islands are covered with tropical forests and are inhabited by innumerous wildlife and aquatic life. One can also see dolphins prancing and frolicking in the azure waters of the sea.

All 40 islands of the Angthong archipelago are of different shapes and sizes. The islands are named after their distinguishing geography and one can find islands named Sleeping Cow Island or Three Pillar Island.

The beaches on the islands are surrounded by coral reefs making them the ideal place for swimming and snorkeling. There are many beaches on the archipelago and there is ample room for everyone without the beaches getting over-crowded.

Out of the Angthong archipelago, the island most popular is Mae Ko Island. In the middle of the island is crystal clear water surrounded on all sides by limestone cliffs. An underground tunnel connects the water in the island to the sea.
