Kamphaeng Phet Province is one the ancient
regions of Thailand located on the northern banks of Ping River. Situated 358
kilometers from Bangkok, Kamphaeng Phet is divided into nine districts
stretching over an area of 8,607 kilometers. Its lush green forests and
numerous national parks provide a tempting tourist destination for nature
lovers and wildlife enthusiasts.
The most prominent tourist
destinations in Kamphaeng Phet are the national parks. This region hosts a
number of important national parks of the country. Famous among these are the
Khlong Wang Chao National Park, Khlong Lan National Park and Mae Wong National
Park which are extended over vast areas of land. The pristine mountains, exotic flora, serene jungles and
endearing waterfalls provide a treat to the tourists yearning for a rendezvous
with nature. Prominent waterfalls include Khong Wang Chao waterfall, Khlong
Samor Kluai Waterfall, Tao Dam Waterfall, Khlong Pong Waterfall, Khlong Nam Lai
Fall and Khlong Lan waterfall. Apart from these parks, ancient cities, museums
and temples offer a variety for the tourists. Prominent among these are
Kamphaeng Phet historical Park containing ancient remnants of the region,
National Museum, Phra Kaeo Temple, Phra Non Temple and Phra Si Iriyabot temple.
Another place worth a visit is the Banana Market.
Adventure lovers can obtain prior permission for camping overnight in
the jungles. The lush forests offer an ideal and memorable trekking experience
through the mountain terrains. Tourists can also opt for motorbike riding and
elephant riding in the national parks.
Daily bus services are available from Bangkok’s Mochit 2 Bus
Terminal. Tourists can also opt for hiring a car from Bangkok to reach
