Kamphaeng Phet Tourist Attraction :

Kamphang Phet Historical Park

Kamphaeng Phet is an important province of immense historical significance situated 358 kilometers north of Bangkok. One major tourist attraction in this province is the Kamphaeng Phet Historical Park that is located 5 kilometers from the town of Kamphaeng Phet, along the Kamphaeng Phet-Phran Kratai road.

Important tourist attractions inside the Kamphaeng Phet National Park include the archaeological remains of the ancient Kamphaeng Phet City that are under renovation. Major sites that house the remnants of the ancient city include the Muang Chankangrao located to the east of the Ping River, Mueang Nathon Chum to the west and the Muang Trai Trueng located some 18 kilometers from the town toward the southwest direction.

The ancient city of Kamphaeng City was once a strategically important location presumed to have been built during the reign of King Li Thai of the Sukhothai Dynasty in the 13th century on the banks of Ping River. During this period, the eastern side of the town was known as Muang Cha Kang Rao and the west bank was called as Na Khon Chum. Strategic importance of the Cha Kong Rao is best depicted by the archaeological remains that were discovered including the strong fortresses, large city walls, gates, camps and watchtowers that were all built from laterite. However, Na Khon Chum was religiously an important location containing several religious sites built from bricks.

The ancient city of Kamphaeng Phet was an important commercial and trade center during the Sukhothai Period as it was suitably located and was easily accessible to people from the plains.

Public can catch a glimpse of ancient Thai history at this place from 8.30 am in the morning to 6.00 pm in the evening. Admission fee for entering the site is 40 baht. One can either hire a bicycle or a motorbike to reach the site. If you like even a car can be hired.
