Samphran Elephant Ground and Zoo 

    The Samphran Elephant Ground and Zoo is located on kilometer 31 of Phetkasem Highway that links Bangkok and Nakhon Pathom. The place has a crocodile farm, an orchid nursery and conducts daily elephant shows and crocodile wrestling shows. It is believed that the elephant show conducted here is one of the best in Thailand.


      The Samphran Elephant Ground and Zoo occupies an area of 52 acres. The elephant show that is conducted daily draw a large crowd and it ends with a re-enactment of the fight between Burmese and Siamese troops in the medieval times. This re-enactment is complete with elephants, cannons and all other special effects giving a war-like atmosphere. In addition, you can see elephant musical shows, magic shows and take an elephant ride around the compound.

      Three crocodile wrestling shows take place daily from 12.45 p.m. until 4.20 p.m. However, there are two special shows held in the afternoon at 1.45 p.m. and 3.30 p.m. There are even additional shows conducted on weekends and public holidays to cater to the crowds that flood the place.

     The entrance fee to get to Sampharn Elephant Ground and Zoo is 500 Baht for adults and 300 Baht for children. It is worth paying the amount and spending a relaxing afternoon among animals. It is quite easy to get to the zoo from Bangkok as there are air-conditioned buses running from the Southern Bus Terminal. The buses serve the routes to Nakhon Pathom and it hardly costs 16 Baht for a one way trip per person.
