Nakhon Sawan Tourist Attraction :

Khao No-Khao Kaeo

Nakhon Sawan province, also known as Pak Nam Pho, is widely considered as the doorway to the north and is also a major transportation hub situated in the lower northern part of Thailand.

This is the place where the rivers of Ping, Wang, Yom and Nan converge and form the Chao Phraya River, the most important waterway in Thailand.

Apart from these geographical facts, Nakhon Sawan is also regarded as a major tourist paradise in Thailand. There are several tourist attractions inside the province including the beautiful Mae Wong National Park, Beung Boraphet Marine Sanctuary and several other ancient temples. One important destination that every tourist must visit in Nakhon Sawan province is Khao No-Khao Kaeo.

Situated 45 kilometers from the city of Nakhon Sawan, Khao No-Khao Kaeo is primarily a huge limestone mountain. This mountain is present along the Nakhon Sawan-Kamphaeng Phet section in Tambon Ban Khaen and it is 18 kilometers from the district center.

The most important aspect of this mountain is the ancient Wat Khao Lo shrine located at the foothills of this mountain. Present at the peak of the mountain is a large cave that houses a large image of Lord Buddha. One can pay their homage to the Lord by climbing a stairway that leads from the foot of the mountain to the peak. There is an interesting historical importance associated with the temple. King Rama V once visited Khao Kaeo while traveling on the Ping River. He stayed overnight on this mountain, in the remembrance of which a monument has been constructed on the hilltop so as to commemorate the occasion.

A major interesting point of this mountain cave is that it is filled with innumerable number of bats. When these animals fly out in the evening in search of food, one can view a thick and long black line in the night sky. Apart from this, the mountain also contains several monkeys. One can have exquisite glimpse of pristine and breathtaking surroundings from the mountain peak.
