Doi Phu Kha National Park

Northern provinces of Thailand are widely known for their natural beauty and pristine surroundings. One such province that has been recently included in the tourist map of Thailand for its unspoiled beauty is the Nan province.

Located at the center of the valley of Nan River, this province is bordered in the south by Uttaradit, Phrae and Phayao provinces. On the north and east, Nan shares its borders with Laos. There are several interesting tourist destinations inside the province. Popular among these is the Doi Phu Kha National Park.

Spread over an area of 1,700 square kilometers, Doi Phu Kha National Park is the largest park in entire Northern Thailand. The park has been named after Doi Phu Kha, the highest peak located inside the park with its peak at 1,980 meters above sea level. Interestingly, the entire park is surrounded by the Luang Prabang mountain range. The entire terrain is filled with forests and limestone mountain ranges. Several streams and canals originate from these mountains and merge with the Nan River.

The uniqueness of this national park is the presence of several rare and endangered flora species. Notable among these is the Chomphu Phu Kha. It is truly a delightful experience to watch the pink flowers of this plant in full bloom during the month of February. Another interesting aspect inside the park is to have a glimpse of a sea of mist that drifts across the valley during the early morning time. Climate inside the park is mainly temperate with temperatures not exceeding beyond 25°C.

Overnight camping and trekking are permitted inside the forests. While walking through these trails, one can have a glimpse of the exotic wildlife present inside the park. There are several scenic waterfalls including Phufah, Fah Shee Nok and Mae Charim Ton Tong waterfalls that add up to the beauty of the park. Apart from tents for camping purpose, there are also bungalows inside the park providing accommodation to tourists.
