For a single ride, buy a ticket at a vending machine that takes coins, banknotes or a QR code. If you will ride a lot, a Rabbit card is easier: it costs a THB 120 issuance fee.

You can load it from THB 100, and the balance stays valid for 2 years after your last transaction. Tap your ticket or card on the reader to enter the gate and again to leave.

MRT fares by line

Line Top fare Free child
Blue THB 44 120 cm
Purple THB 42 120 cm
Yellow THB 45 90 cm
Pink THB 45 not stated

The Blue Line charges by stations ridden: THB 17 for one station and THB 44 for 12 or more. The cheapest Purple Line hop is THB 16, for example Bang Phlu to Bang Rak Yai.

The half-fare senior discount on the Blue Line is for Thai nationals aged over 60, so visitors do not get it.

Paying with a bank card

On the Blue and Purple Lines your contactless card works as the ticket: tap one card to go in and the same card to come out.

Any credit card under VISA, Mastercard or UnionPay works, from any issuer. Debit cards are narrower: only Thai-issued VISA or Mastercard debit cards from Krungthai, Krungsri, KASIKORNBANK, SCB and UOB work.

The THB 40 daily cap

On the Purple Line and the Red Line you pay at most THB 40 a day, however many trips you take. You get it by paying with a contactless credit or debit card of VISA, Mastercard or UnionPay. The cap runs from December 2025 to November 2026.

From the airports

At Suvarnabhumi the Airport Rail Link station is on Level B1 of the main terminal, and a fare costs THB 15 to THB 45 depending on how far you go. You change to the BTS at Phaya Thai Station and to the MRT at Makkasan Station.

From Don Mueang, the Red Line reaches Krung Thep Aphiwat for THB 33. Exit 6 of Don Mueang station has a walkway to the domestic terminal.

Not confirmed: BTS gates and bank cards: no BTS text covers them, so carry a Rabbit card or buy a ticket. The daily cap ends in November 2026: check the MRTA page before you rely on it. Foreign debit cards: only five Thai banks' debit cards are named, so carry a credit card.

MRT fare, credit card same as ticket and stored value cards,. Just a FYI for people arriving, On the MRT the when using your credit card (visa) to tap in/out the prices are the same as stored value card and ticket coins. The min fare is 19 baht, and my CC charged 19.37 baht after conversion from Sukhumvit to Phra Ram 9 station . I only use this for MRT now. I see allot of tourists fiddling with the ticket machines so i think allot of people dont know yet.

Yes, they need a passport on record for you to add money. They only need it one time, and a printed out picture will work (maybe even a picture on your phone, you can try)

    2. Similar_Past

It's a one time thing, and quite normal for personal cards all over the world. If you have contactless payment in your card you can use that in MRT, no need for custom card.

      > If you have contactless payment in your card you can use that in MRT, no need for custom card. Last I checked, this was only true for credit cards, not debit cards.

Prices, timetables and opening hours change; check with the operator before you travel. See how guides are checked.
