Thailand Visa on Arrival: 3 Countries, THB 2,000, 15 Days
Unless you hold an Azerbaijani, Belarusian or Serbian passport, you won't get a visa on arrival, because those three are the only ones left. It costs THB 2,000 in baht cash and gives up to 15 days. Most other travellers enter visa-free for 30 days instead.

Is your passport on the list?
The rule changed on 15 September 2026, and the old, longer list was repealed. The three passports are named in the official list:

Anyone admitted under the older rules before 15 September 2026 can stay until their granted period ends.
What it costs and how to pay
Bring the fee in Thai baht cash, because that is the only way to pay and it is non-refundable. The visa is for tourism only, and it is issued at designated immigration checkpoints.

What to have in your hand at the counter
Officers apply the requirements at their discretion, so carry the full set:
- A completed application form, which you pick up at the port of entry.
- One recent passport-sized photograph taken within the past 6 months.
- A passport valid for at least 6 months, with at least 2 blank pages.
- Proof of funds: THB 10,000 per person or THB 20,000 per family.
- Fully paid onward tickets scheduled within 15 days of entry.
Everyone also fills in the Thailand Digital Arrival Card, within 3 days before arriving. It is free, but it is not a visa. The TDAC arrival card guide walks you through it.
No official list of the checkpoints has been published, so check with an embassy before you plan to arrive by land.
If you need more time
A visa on arrival generally cannot be extended, except in a case of illness that prevents you from travelling. A visa-exempt visitor can request up to 30 more days instead.
If you overstay, the fine is THB 500 a day, up to THB 20,000. Pay it before you leave and the next visit is not blocked. Longer overstays carry bans, covered in the overstay fines guide.
Not confirmed: The Immigration Bureau has not published which checkpoints issue the visa on arrival. Ask a Thai embassy or the Immigration Bureau before you rely on a land border or a small airport. Book onward travel that leaves within 15 days of arrival.

This is something that is currently quite unpredictable. It is not a mandate but more of an advisory. Immigration may not check for this but your airline might. You are expected to show proof of cash if travelling alone (10k THB) or as a family (25k THB). For our case, Thai Lion did not ask for any proof at BLR airport but asked for proof at BOM airport to different parties in the same group travelling from Mumbai. I'd advise keeping the cash handy if you can. I am not sure but I think Forex card counts too.

Yes, by regulations, all travelers must show proof of funds. But it is also at the discretion of the Immigration Officer. Visa on Arrival = 10,000THB per Person or 20,000THB per Family Visa Exemption/Tourist Visa = 20,000THB per Person or 40,000THB per Family

Normal is 2000 express is 2200. If you don’t need a visa normal is 0, express is 200.

Yes, that's more accurate. I don't think that this is corruption at all. The first time that I came to Bangkok, I myself chose the express lane, though, in retrospect, I didn't need to, as I have a VISA free entry... The express lane and applicable fees are very clearly visible in the express counters.

Visa on arrival rejected Hi everyone, I have been staying in Thailand for 4 months now and left to Laos for sight seeing for the weekend and I came back to Thailand today. They randomly selected me and checked my passport and at first they said I can’t enter because I’m not traveling for touristic purposes but then they told me Im rejected due to not having 20k baht in cash which I never had that cause problems before (I have Canadian passport by the way) Now I’m in detention room until my next flight back to Laos…. They keep telling me that I can try to come back again whenever I want but I’m scared of getting rejected again . I had proof of address, return flight back to Canada in September but no cash (I also explained I’m here for tourism and leaving back home in September) All my stuff is in Thailand and I’m feeling so stressed… I’ve never wanted to be back in Bangkok so badly 😢 Does anybody have any advice or tips…. I’m so distraught and stressed.

Same thing happened to me twice on Thai Malaysia border ... just go back to point of origin and go via land , you will get a stamp in the back of your passport, try to get a tourist visa in Laos and cross in Thailand

Yup you’re 100% right!! I made it through land border with ease… they literally didn’t even ask for proof of cash, just proof that I’m leaving Crazy how I got rejected at airport but let in the next day

>left to Laos for sight seeing for the weekend and I came back to Thailand today. Issue no.1 - This looks like a border run. I'm not accusing you of anything and not saying this was your intention but this was the very thing immigration told me to do when I was denied a covid extension in November of 2021. They said "take a short trip and come right back". Yeah...about that... >but no cash Issue no.2 - This potentially further drove their suspicions that you lived in Thailand and were making a visa run. >checked my passport Issue no.3 - If you came in on a TR, it looks like you got an extension and were then trying to do a border run to start the clock over again with exemption or VOA first. Conclusion I'm sorry this happened to you and glad to see in the comments you got back in via a land border the next day. I think a lot of sound advice has already been shared but I'll add one more thing based on being scrutinized when I got back to America after 11 months in Thailand. It had zero to do with me being black and everything to do with me not knowing the USCIS rules for permanent residents. I dodged a bullet by 1 month. Take an objective step back and ask yourself how your passport and documents look to immigration. Does it look like you're following the rules or like your travels are similar to people that break the "rules"? Best of luck to you in the future.
