Which ticket to buy
If you are a foreign visitor, pay THB 80 per temple for a short visit and take the THB 300 combination ticket for a full day. The park is open every day from 08:00 to 18:00.
| Visitor | One temple | Combination ticket |
|---|---|---|
| Foreigner | THB 80 | THB 300 |
| Thai | THB 10 | THB 40 |

The maths is simple: four single tickets cost THB 320, so the combination ticket at THB 300 wins once you reach the fourth temple. Six sites charge admission. They are Wat Phra Si Sanphet with the Ancient Palace, Wat Phra Ram, Wat Mahathat, Wat Ratchaburana, Wat Chaiwatthanaram and Wat Maheyong.

The Chao Sam Phraya National Museum sells its own ticket at THB 150 for foreigners, and it is open from 09:00 to 16:00 every day.
Getting around the old city

Hire a bicycle or hop on a tram: both work inside the old city wall. The information centres there are free, so start at one if you want a map and some background.
Getting there from Bangkok
For a day trip, take train 9003 from Krung Thep Aphiwat at 09:05, which reaches Ayutthaya at 10:20 and runs every day. If you want an earlier start, train 9001 leaves at 05:15, but only Monday to Friday.
Plan your return around train 9006, which leaves Ayutthaya at 19:45 and reaches Krung Thep Aphiwat at 21:00. It runs every day. If you are heading to Hua Lamphong instead, the last train back leaves at 18:48.
A simple day plan

Arrive at 10:20 and see the temples until 18:00, when the park closes. Fit the museum in before it closes at 16:00, then catch the 19:45 train home.

If you want another day out of Bangkok, the Erawan Falls, buses and Death Railway guide covers the details.
Before you go
Bring THB 80 per temple, or THB 300 for the combination ticket. Arrive before the park closes at 18:00, and check the weekday if you are aiming for the early train, because 9001 does not run at weekends.
