Intensive care totals THB 25,500 a day, or THB 27,200 for an isolation room. The daily charge covers 24 hours, and a stay running over by under 12 hours adds half a day, while 12 to 24 extra hours adds a full day. Doctor and procedure fees come on top, and rates change without prior notice.

Deposits and payment

Expect to pay a full deposit for all procedures, including CT, MRI and PET scans, with any excess refunded once the procedure is done. Bumrungrad takes cash, credit card or debit card, and a cheque only if it is a cashier cheque. Hospitals ask for a guarantee of payment before treating patients. Bumrungrad has one pricing system, so patients of all nationalities pay the same.

Check-up packages

Samitivej Srinakarin publishes check-up prices that include doctor’s fees and hospital service fees.

Programme Promotion price Regular price
Basic check-up, male or female THB 3,500 THB 7,500
Annual check-up, male over 50 THB 31,000 THB 48,000

Promotions are for Thai nationals and foreigners residing in Thailand only, so a visitor should plan on the regular price.

Public hospitals and foreign patients

Public hospitals do not always meet UK standards, particularly outside Bangkok. On price, the Ministry of Public Health’s 2019 rate book sorts foreign patients into three groups.

Group Who Multiplier of the Thai rate
1 Migrant workers; persons with status and rights problems 1.0 times
2 Foreigners lawfully working or studying, not in group 1 Up to 1.5 times
3 Tourists and others entering temporarily Up to 2.0 times

The multiplier shrinks as the Thai price rises: group 3 pays up to 1.5 times from THB 10,000 to 50,000, and up to 1.25 times above THB 50,000. Check the current rate at the hospital before treatment. For how state hospitals work in practice, see public hospitals in Thailand for foreigners.

The gold card scheme is a separate right for Thai people, and its first qualification is Thai nationality.

UCEP: emergency treatment without paying upfront

UCEP lets a critical emergency patient be treated at the nearest hospital without charge until out of crisis, for no more than 72 hours. After calling 1669 for a critical emergency, there is no need to pay upfront. If the case does not meet the critical-emergency criteria, further treatment is at your own cost.

Whether UCEP applies to a foreign tourist is not stated, so ask the 1669 operator or the treating hospital. See Thailand emergency numbers for what to say on the call, and English-speaking hospitals in Bangkok for choices in the capital.
