If you are not sure which police line fits, 1155 is the hotline for crimes involving tourists, and 191 is for reporting an incident to police officers.

Calling an ambulance

1669 serves critically ill patients outside a medical facility. The officer who answers first judges whether it is a real emergency, so answer their questions rather than hanging up. A critical case gets a team sent to collect the patient. If it is not a real emergency, they may point you to other services instead.

If the emergency starts inside a hospital or clinic, that facility’s own system takes over, in principle.

What to say on the phone

Take these in order:

  1. Stay calm and call 1669.
  2. Say what happened and what kind of injuries there are.
  3. Give the location and the route to it clearly.
  4. Give sex, age range, symptoms and the number of people hurt.
  5. Say how conscious the patient is.
  6. Mention any risk that could recur, such as being in the middle of a road.
  7. Give your name and a phone number that works.
  8. Give basic first aid as the officer advises.
  9. Wait for the rescue team to take the patient to hospital.

Please do not make prank calls, because they can cut off another patient’s chance of help.

Tourist police and their app

The Tourist Police Bureau has a mobile app for requesting immediate assistance, translation services and tourism information. It is available to tourists who do not have a Thai SIM card.

After a theft or accident

If money, a passport or other valuables are lost or stolen, report it to the local police as soon as possible. Ask for a statement about the loss or a crime report, because your insurer may want it. A lost or stolen passport must be reported immediately. Foreign police are under no obligation to open a case, particularly if the crime was not reported before you left the country.

Keep receipts for anything you buy to replace what was stolen, and keep medical bills from hospitals or doctors.

Online scams: call 1441

The Anti Online Scam Operation Center works exclusively through the hotline 1441. Press 1 to report and request the suspension of suspicious accounts. For problem online shopping, staff recommend the 1212 hotline.

It doesn't explain what a second police hotline is for or why there's a different medical emergency number in Bangkok

Touristic police number I will use eSIM for my trip in Thailand with no local/Thai number, only data for internet. Since my medical insurance is reachable only via local number, I thought then to buy a virtual VOIP number to be able to call them, just in case. I am not sure that if I will need to call 1155 will work, using the VOIP virtual number, because it is "special" number" .. what is you experience about it ? Thanks

If you get a Thailand-based eSIM, then yes. If the eSIM is not actually from Thailand and roams onto a Thai network, then maybe. If having a Thai number is important to you, you can easily get an eSIM at the airport. You don’t need to use an MNVO for this.
