Koh Phi Phi Guide: Park Charge, Krabi Ferry and Maya Bay
From Krabi, take the ferry: the crossing takes 2 hours and costs THB 450. Foreign adults also pay a park charge of THB 400. Stay by Tonsai Pier for nightlife, or walk over to Loh Dalum Bay for swimming. Skip Maya Bay from 1 August to 30 September, when it is closed.

Coming from Krabi, the ferry is the easy way over, and it drops you right at Tonsai Pier, the island’s main gateway. Budget for the park charge, and keep August and September free of Maya Bay plans, because it is closed then.
Getting there from Krabi

Your ferry leaves from Klong Jilad Pier and docks at Tonsai Pier. The crossing takes 2 hours, and an adult fare is THB 450.
Boats leave Krabi at 09:00 and 13:00, and they leave Tonsai for the return at 10:30 and 15:30. Schedules can change without notice, so check close to your date.

Want it quicker? A speedboat takes about 1 hour at THB 450-500 a seat. Pregnant travellers and anyone with a health condition should know that the speedboat has restrictions for them. From Phuket, a passenger boat leaves Rassada Pier. The Krabi to Koh Phi Phi ferry guide has the full timetable.
At the pier, check in 30 minutes before departure at the last pavilion or the green tent. You can buy a ticket on the spot, but booking ahead is smarter in high season. Your fare includes one suitcase and one handbag, and each extra piece costs THB 300. A luggage storage service runs at Tonsai Pier.
The park charge
A foreign adult pays THB 400 and a foreign child THB 200 to enter the park. It covers Ko Phi Phi Don, Ko Phi Phi Le and Ko Mai Phai.

Here a child is aged 3 to 14 or no taller than 140 cm. Children under 3 are exempt.
Buy your ticket as an e-ticket in the QueQ app. You can pay by card or PromptPay, then show the app’s QR code to the ranger. Keep the receipt on you, because officials may inspect it.
Where to stay: Tonsai or Loh Dalum

Stay in Tonsai if you want everything on foot, since the bay holds the main port and is the hub for accommodation and restaurants. The beach has dozens of bars and restaurants.
Pick Loh Dalum Bay for swimming: it is a cove with clear water, reached by a path from Tonsai Bay. Yao Beach, on the east side of the south of Phi Phi Don, has resorts and hotels scattered along its coast. Book your room ahead around Christmas and New Year.
Maya Bay

Maya Bay lies on Phi Phi Le. In the 2026 closure announcement, it and two nearby bays are closed to visitors from 1 August to 30 September. The closure comes every year, for tourist safety in the rainy season and to let nature recover. The rest of the national park stays open.
When the bay is open, plan to look rather than swim, because swimming is banned. Boats may not stop in front of the bay and moor behind the beach at Loh Samah bay instead. A visit lasts about 1 hour, and you can book up to 60 days ahead in the QueQ app. Leave sunscreen with banned substances at home.
The Maya Bay and Phi Phi park fee guide covers the rules in full.
When to go
Come between November and April, when the weather is more temperate and the rains are less frequent. The park’s rainy season runs from May to December, with the most rain in July. The low season has an upside, since room rates are discounted.
If something goes wrong
Save 1669 for a medical emergency and 1155 for the Tourist Police. If you dive, check that your scuba instructor is fully accredited. More numbers sit on the emergency numbers page.
