Yes, you can extend a visa-free stay once, by up to 30 days, and the fee is THB 1,900. Your entry stamp shows the last day you may stay, so file before that day passes.
Who can extend
The extension covers tourism for visitors on a tourist visa or a visa exemption of up to 30 days. Approval is the immigration officer’s call, so it is not automatic.
If you came on Visa on Arrival, you generally cannot apply, except in special cases of illness which prevent you from travelling. If your passport is on a committee list, ask the office first, because Order 12/2568 excludes applicants of a nationality or class that the committee specifies.

| Fee | THB 1,900 |
The fee is not refunded under any circumstances.

What to bring
Take your passport and one copy, form TM.7, and one photograph 4 x 6 cm taken within the last 6 months. Bring THB 1,900 for the fee.
Where to file
File in person at the immigration office that covers the area where you stay. In Bangkok that is Immigration Division 1, which handles Bangkok only, apart from the airport checkpoints and Bangkok ports. The Bangkok immigration office guide has the counter, hours and route.
After you file
You may stay in the Kingdom while the officer considers your file. If you do not qualify, the officer issues a refusal and you must leave within 7 days from the day the permission ended.
If your stay has already ended, the waiting stamps count from the filing date, and the officer first deals with the overstay fine. The overstay fines page has the tiers.

2.4 For tourism: permit once, not more than 30 days from the day the permission ends.

The same order says what follows a refusal.

…notify the order of refusal and have the alien leave the Kingdom within 7 days from the day the permission ended.

If you want longer than one extension
One extension is the cap on a visa-exempt stay. For months rather than weeks, the DTV guide is the route to compare, and the visa exemption rules cover the entry side.
