A Thai ATM charges a foreign card THB 250 per withdrawal for Visa and THB 350 for Mastercard at Kasikornbank, Krungsri and SCB. Krung Thai charges THB 220 for both, in a table dated October 2023. Decline conversion at the machine: Krung Thai adds 4% when you accept it.

THB 250 for Visa, THB 350 for Mastercard: that is the fee line at three of Thailand’s big ATM networks. Krung Thai is lower at THB 220.
Look at the screen before you accept. The conversion offer at the end can add a further 4% at Krung Thai.
The fee per withdrawal, bank by bank
Each bank sets its own access fee per withdrawal for cards issued abroad.
| Bank | Visa | Mastercard | UnionPay | JCB |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kasikornbank (KBank) | THB 250 | THB 350 | THB 250 | not listed |
| Krungsri | THB 250 | THB 350 | THB 250 | THB 250 |
| SCB | THB 250 | THB 350 | THB 250 | THB 250 |
| Krung Thai | THB 220 | THB 220 | THB 220 | not listed |
Cards accepted and the cap per withdrawal
KBank ATMs accept Visa, Mastercard, JCB, UnionPay, AMEX, AEON and Umay+ cards. They run 24 hours a day.
| Bank | Cap per transaction |
|---|---|
| KBank | THB 30,000 |
| Krung Thai | THB 20,000 on foreign Visa and Mastercard |
| Krungsri and SCB | not stated in the fee tables |

KBank’s table is effective 22 September 2026. Krungsri’s is effective 1 September 2026. SCB’s Mastercard rate took effect on 26 March 2026.
Ten thousand baht and repeat withdrawals
The fee is per transaction, so the count matters more than the amount.
| One withdrawal of ten thousand baht | Fee | Share of the amount |
|---|---|---|
| Visa at KBank | THB 250 | 2.5% |
| Mastercard at KBank | THB 350 | 3.5% |
| Any card at Krung Thai | THB 220 | 2.2% |
| Several withdrawals | Fee in total |
|---|---|
| Three Visa withdrawals at KBank | THB 750 |
| Three Mastercard withdrawals at KBank | THB 1,050 |
| Three withdrawals at Krung Thai | THB 660 |
Splitting a withdrawal into three Visa transactions at KBank costs THB 500 more than one transaction. One withdrawal at KBank’s THB 30,000 cap pays the fee once.
A Mastercard withdrawal costs THB 100 more than a Visa withdrawal at KBank.
The KBank steps
At a KBank ATM the sequence is:
- Insert the card and enter the PIN.
- Select Change Language, then pick your language.
- Select Cash Withdrawal.
- Choose the amount.
- Collect the cash, remove the card and take the receipt.
Visa, Mastercard, UnionPay and JCB
Mastercard is the card that costs more. SCB charges THB 350 for Mastercard against THB 250 for Visa, UnionPay and JCB. Krungsri splits the same way.

The Mastercard rate at SCB took effect on 26 March 2026. If you carry both a Visa and a Mastercard, take the Visa to these ATMs.
Krungsri’s heading is the scope: a card issued by a card issuer in a foreign country. A Thai non-bank card pays a different, lower fee at Krung Thai, THB 20. Your home card does not get that rate.
Krung Thai: THB 220 and a withdrawal cap
Krung Thai charges THB 220 per ATM transaction for a foreign Visa (Plus) and the same for Mastercard (Cirrus). A card from a bank on the China UnionPay network pays THB 220 as well.

ATM withdrawals on these cards are capped at THB 20,000 per transaction. The fee applies only to a successful transaction.
Three withdrawals at that cap cost THB 660 in access fees. Krung Thai’s English table is dated October 2023, older than the other three, so the machine screen is the final check.
Say no to conversion at the machine
At Krung Thai, the conversion offer costs 4% of the amount withdrawn in the currency of the issuing bank.

The table calls it the Dynamic Currency Conversion fee, charged additionally when you select the service. That 4% comes on top of the access fee. Choose the baht option and let your own card network convert.
Cheaper routes: American Express, counters and tourist cards
American Express is the cheap card here. Krungsri charges THB 50 for an international American Express card at its ATMs. SCB charges THB 50 for an American Express issued abroad.
Krung Thai charges THB 50 for a card issued under the Asian Payment Network. The counter rate at Krungsri is THB 200 for an international Visa card, which is THB 50 less than its ATM. At Krung Thai the counter charges THB 200 for a foreign Visa (Plus), THB 20 less than its ATM.

A KBank PAY&TOUR card costs THB 20 per K-ATM withdrawal. Free withdrawals on it ran from 12 June 2024 to 22 July 2026. Ask a branch for the visitor rules.
Counter, ATM or QR
| Route | Cost |
|---|---|
| ATM with a foreign card, at the four banks with a published table | THB 220 to THB 350 per withdrawal |
| Branch counter, Visa | THB 200 |
| PromptPay QR | free up to THB 5,000 per transaction |
PromptPay works by linking an existing bank account to a citizen ID or phone number. Most banks have waived fees on mobile payments since 2018. A foreign card pays the access fees above instead.
If something goes wrong at the ATM
Pass on a machine that looks unusual. Keep the slip so you can check it against your account.
If the ATM retains a Bangkok Bank card, the holder calls Bualuang Phone 1333 or visits a branch at once. The bank suspends the card and issues a new one. That page is written for the bank’s own cards, so a foreign card goes back to its own issuer.
Not confirmed: Bangkok Bank and ttb show no foreign-card ATM fee in their English pages; ask the bank before relying on a figure. No Thai bank page covers an ATM keeping a foreign card; call your card issuer. KBank's PAY&TOUR card costs THB 20 per withdrawal; ask a branch for the visitor rules.

Feel bad for her as it can easily happen to anyone. But four days to get it back is pretty normal. Not many ATMs are opened daily by the bank. That's why I always travel with several cards and a bit of cash. Once at the hotel, some cards come with me and some stay in the hotel safe. I always have at least a hundred dollars or so just in case too. That's just reducing risk and having a back up if something goes wrong.

Why are ATM fees so absurdly high? I've traveled to well over 50 countries and I've never been to any other country where ATMs charge a flat fee as high as in Thailand. As someone who loves using cash but also prefers not to have too much on me at any time the ATM situation here is so annoying. Why don't they just use a percentage method like most countries do? I love this country but 250 baht is truly extortionate. At this point they're just incentivizing people to stuff their pockets full of 1000 baht bills and become a pickpocket's wet dream.

For which banks? I thought Bangkok bank still charges outside the original province where you opened bank account

When this comes up, Americans *always* assume everyone is American. It's never " *If* you're from the US, do this" It's always " Get a schwab card!", an option not available to the rest of the globe participating here.
