Electricity: tariff bands and bill

From the September 2026 bill, the energy charge for the first 200 units of a home is at most THB 3 a unit. MEA applies the revised rates from the September 2026 billing cycle.

PEA supplies 74 provinces and excludes Bangkok, Nonthaburi and Samut Prakan, so a Bangkok flat is billed by MEA.

Your category depends on the meter. A meter of up to 5 amps is MEA type 1.1; a meter above 5 amps is MEA type 1.2.

Rate 1.2, meter above 5 amps Energy charge per unit
Units 1 to 200 THB 3.0000
Units 201 to 400 THB 4.1584
Unit 401 onwards THB 4.3583

On rate 1.1 the first 15 units cost THB 2.3488, units 16 to 25 cost THB 2.9882 and units 26 to 200 cost THB 3.0000.

The bands add up: only the units above a threshold take the next rate. On rate 1.2, 200 units cost THB 600, 300 units THB 1,015.84 and 400 units THB 1,431.68 in energy charge.

The final bill adds the monthly service charge, the Ft charge and VAT.

A home without a permanent house registration paid THB 6.8024 a unit as temporary electricity. From September 2026 such a home moves to the ordinary residential rate when it is used for living in and has at least 6 months of payment history.

What your landlord may charge for power and water

A landlord may charge water and electricity no more than the state rate and may add no service fee or profit. Electricity must stay at or below THB 4.88 a unit.

The rule comes from the Contract Committee notice that made residential building rental a contract-controlled business, B.E. 2568.

Units a month Tariff energy charge Ceiling at THB 4.88
300 THB 1,015.84 THB 1,464
400 THB 1,431.68 THB 1,952

The ceiling is a limit, not a price. The first 200 units cost THB 3.0000 on the tariff.

A tenant who is overcharged can call the OCPB hotline 1166 or complain through the OCPB Connect application. An operator who breaks the rule faces up to 1 year in prison or a fine of up to THB 200,000, or both.
