Thailand e-Visa: How to Apply, Fees, Documents
You apply for a Thai e-Visa online at thaievisa.go.th while you are outside Thailand. A tourist visa allows up to 60 days. Fee, lead time and bank-statement test depend on the embassy you apply through: Washington charges USD 40 for one entry, Singapore SGD 50. Fees are non-refundable.
On this page
Everyone who needs a visa for Thailand applies through the same official site. Nobody hands in a passport at an embassy counter any more. What differs is the embassy that decides your case, because the fee, the bank-statement test and the lead time are set on that embassy’s own page. The steps below follow the portal, while fees and documents vary from one embassy to the next.
Do you need an e-Visa at all?
Passport holders of 60 listed countries and territories may enter for tourism without a visa and stay not more than 30 days. If you are on that list and a month is enough, you can skip the application. Our exemption guide has the full list and conditions.
If you are not on the list, or you want the longer tourist stay of up to 60 days, you need a visa. The e-Visa system is the route Thailand points travellers to, and it has been available worldwide since 1 January 2025. We recommend starting from the visa types guide if you are unsure which visa fits your trip.
Apply for the e-Visa, step by step
The official site walks you through six stages. You create an account, fill in a form, upload documents and pay the fee. Then you wait, and the confirmation arrives by email.
- Open thaievisa.go.th and create an account. You can only apply while you are not in Thailand.
- Complete the application form for the visa that matches your purpose of travel. The tourist group also covers recreation learning such as scuba diving, boxing training and Thai massage training.
- Upload your supporting documents as large, clear JPEG or PDF files of no more than 3MB.
- Pay the visa fee. It is not refundable.
- Wait until the visa is approved before you travel.
- Print the confirmation email that arrives after approval and keep it for the airline and immigration officers.
Approval is not automatic. The embassy may request an interview or extra documents, and submitting an application does not mean a visa will be granted.
What the tourist e-Visa costs
The fee is the clearest example of an embassy-by-embassy rule. Washington D.C. and Singapore both publish a single-entry and a multiple-entry price, and the currencies differ.
| Embassy | Single entry | Multiple entry |
|---|---|---|
| Washington D.C. | USD 40 | USD 200 |
| Singapore | SGD 50 | SGD 250 |

Washington’s single-entry visa is valid for 3 months from issue and the multiple-entry visa for 6 months. A tourist visa then allows up to 60 days per entry from the date you enter. The fee is not refunded if the application fails, so read your own embassy’s page before you pay.
Documents to upload
The MFA’s tourist visa list names a passport page, a recent photo, proof of where you are now, a booking confirmation, proof of accommodation in Thailand and financial evidence. On top of that each embassy adds its own rules, and the money test is where they differ most.
- Passport biodata page, valid within 6 months from the travel date.
- A photograph taken within the past six months.
- A document showing where you are now, such as a driver’s licence, bank statement or proof of stay.
- Proof of accommodation, such as a hotel booking or an invitation letter from family or friends in Thailand.
- Financial evidence of no less than THB 20,000 on the MFA list.
Washington D.C. asks for three months of bank statements with an ending balance of at least $ 700 for each month per person. Singapore asks for a balance of at least 800 SGD per person. Incomplete files, screenshots and unclear scans bring a request for more documents and slow the visa down.
When to apply
Washington D.C. asks you to apply at least 30 days before departure and no more than 90 days ahead, because most visas are valid for only 90 days from issue. Singapore asks for the application at least 21 working days before travel.
A shorter general figure is 14 business days. We recommend to follow the longer lead time on your embassy’s page, and to book non-refundable flights only after the approval email arrives.
After approval: what to carry
Print the confirmation email and have it ready at check-in and at Thai immigration. A tourist stay can be extended once, by 30 days, for a maximum of 90 days from entry. See our guide to extending your stay for the immigration-office step, and complete the TDAC arrival card before you land. The longer-stay options, including the DTV, are in the DTV guide.
