Thailand Visa Types: Every Route, Stay, Money and Fee
Pick the visa by what you will do here. Tourists use the 30-day exemption, remote workers use the DTV, valid 5 years, and retirees start at age 50. The LTR runs 10 years. The table below gives the stay, money and fee for each route.

Choose by what you will do in Thailand: the table gives the stay, the money and the fee for every route, and the sections after it say who each one suits. Fees are baht amounts from government pages, and an embassy abroad may charge in local currency.

If you are a tourist
Most visitors need no visa at all: nationals of 60 countries and territories get 30 days for tourism. Carry cash of THB 20,000 per person, and check the visa exemption guide for the country list.
If you want longer, the TR1 tourist visa gives 60 days and costs THB 1,000 per entry.

Visa on arrival is only for Azerbaijan, Belarus and Serbia. It allows up to 15 days at THB 2,000; see the Visa on Arrival guide.
A visa-exempt stay gets one extension of up to 30 days, at THB 1,900. Land-border entries are limited to twice per calendar year. The extension guide has the steps.
If you work remotely
The DTV is built for digital nomads, remote workers and freelancers. It is valid 5 years, with 180 days per entry. Apply on the Thai e-Visa platform or at an embassy, with a bank balance of at least THB 500,000. The DTV guide covers documents and extensions.
If you want a longer base, the LTR is a 10-year visa. Every application starts with a BOI letter, and the fee is THB 50,000. See the LTR guide.

If you are retired
Retirement visas start at age 50. The usual money test is income of THB 65,000 a month, or a balance of THB 800,000. The O-A is valid 1 year and needs health insurance of at least USD 100,000. The O-X is valid 5 years and asks for a THB 3,000,000 deposit.

The retirement visa guide compares the three routes.
Family, study and work
Staying with Thai family for more than 60 days is the Non-O O8 route, with income of THB 40,000 a month or a THB 400,000 balance. Degree study at bachelor level or higher uses ED PLUS. Employment needs a Ministry of Labour approval letter (WP32), plus financial evidence of THB 30,000.
After you arrive
Report your address to immigration every 90 days. A single re-entry permit costs THB 1,000, and leaving without one cancels your permitted stay. Overstay costs at least THB 500 a day, and the TDAC is free. Notices and permits: 90-day report, TM.30, re-entry permit, overstay and TDAC.
The Bangkok immigration office guide and the tourist entry fee page round out the set.
Not confirmed: Embassies set their own visa fees in local currency, so the baht fee on the Bangkok office page is a guide, not your embassy's price. Thailand Privilege membership prices are not on a government page.
